Why Patients Choose BOTOX® for Facial Rejuvenation

Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising your eyebrows cause the skin to crease, gradually resulting in the formation of facial lines and wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a quick, 10-minute treatment that temporarily relaxes the muscles to soften the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines as well as address the lines on the forehead and around the eyes.

Through a series of tiny injections, BOTOX® Cosmetic can achieve natural-looking results within 4–5 days and last for up to 3 months. If you are interested in BOTOX® injections, we encourage you to browse the sections below to find more detailed information about this popular treatment, or please feel free to contact us today to book a consultation with Oculoplastic & Orbital Consultants.

What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic and How Does It Work?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is an FDA-approved treatment that is injected into targeted areas to block the nerve signals within the muscle. It contains a purified form of botulinum toxin A, which is perfectly safe when the dosage and frequency are considered, and the treatment is administered by an experienced injector. Once the facial muscles relax and soften, you will see a noticeable difference in the texture of your skin, creating a smoother, rejuvenated appearance.

What Should I Expect During The Treatment? Is It Painful?

Many first-time patients are apprehensive about whether they will feel pain during their treatment. BOTOX® injections are performed with a tiny needle, and most patients are quite comfortable during the procedure.

However, you may feel a slight pinch that lasts only a second while the medication is administered. For those individuals who want a little more reassurance, we’re happy to provide a topical anesthetic or cold pack to numb the area.

As a highly qualified injector, Dr. Connor has developed special techniques to minimize this discomfort and make your experience as pleasant as possible.

What Can I Expect After BOTOX® Treatment?

Following your BOTOX® Cosmetic procedure, it is recommended that you do not massage the treated areas for 12 hours, as this can cause the medication to migrate. We also ask that you avoid any strenuous activity or lying down for four hours.

Other than that, you can return to work and continue with your normal routine. While BOTOX® Cosmetic does not provide immediate gratification, it’s well worth the wait and typically takes 3-5 days before you will see a visible smoothing of the treatment area(s). Gradual results will continue to develop over the course of two weeks.

How Many Units Of BOTOX® Cosmetic Will I Need?

During your consultation, Dr. Michael Connor will determine how many units you will need to treat the desired area(s). Each area has different muscles and, therefore, requires a different number of units. To give you an idea, the glabellar (area between the eyes) will require more units than the forehead or around the eyes, and each patient will have specific needs depending on certain factors such as age, gender, and condition of the skin. Ultimately, the number of units required will determine the cost of the procedure.

How Long Does BOTOX® Cosmetic Last?

BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments typically last 3-4 months until the muscle regains its movement and the active protein found in BOTOX® injections is broken down into harmless amino acids that are recycled by the body. Melanie and Dr. Connor recommend that their patients return for timely treatments every three months for ongoing maintenance. You will find that over the course of 1–2 years, consistent BOTOX® injections will improve deeper wrinkles, resulting in long-term benefits.

Does BOTOX® Cosmetic Have Side Effects?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is extremely safe and effective and has been used for over 20 years in the cosmetic industry. However, please remember that BOTOX® Cosmetic is a medication, and with any medication, we can see adverse side effects in some patients.

When BOTOX® Cosmetic is used properly with dosages that are designed for cosmetic purposes, serious side effects are extremely rare, particularly when you see an experienced injector like Dr. Connor.

The most common side effects are mild and temporary, including redness, irritation, and swelling at the injection site(s). Some patients may also experience a headache shortly after the procedure.

What Is the Cost of a BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatment?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is priced by the “unit,” and the number of units required varies from person to person. Dr. Michael Connor will always tailor the treatment to your individual needs in order to achieve the best result. Seeking the lowest pricing may not always be the best decision when considering BOTOX® injections. While the result is temporary, it is not reversible and will last 3-4 months, so it is in your best interest to choose wisely when selecting a cosmetic surgery practice and always consider the professional qualifications of the injector.

Is BOTOX® Cosmetic Good For Men, Too?

Yes! We see many men in our practice who want to defy aging and smooth away their wrinkles. When injected properly, there is no need to fear the overdone look. Men have stronger muscles than women do in their face, so they require more units, but they share similar anti-aging benefits when injected properly.
