The body is an amazing machine, and like most machines, parts can wear out. The eyelids blink thousands of times each day. The tendons and support structures can weaken and lead to sagging skin, drooping eyelids, outward- or inward-turning lower eyelids, improper closure, and poor tear drainage. Some underlying medical conditions, such as Graves’ Disease, can cause the eyes to bulge. Injury to the face and area around the eyes can damage the eyelids, tear drain, or underlying bones. This area can also be affected by skin cancer.
